Five Towers and Zero Alliteration

The Two Towers is a great title but I'm counting a few more pointy buildings in this book: Saraman in Orthanc is a given, then Pippin sees the white tower of Minas Tirith in the palantir, Fram finds themselves climbing stairs near Minas Morgal, then its on to the Tower of Cirith Ungol, and oh yeah, don't forget Sauron's all seeing eye atop Baradur...but just two? Which Two Towers are we talking about here? The world may never know.

I would say that two possible towers are those featured at the end of each half of the novel:

Orthanc with Saruman's defeat

Cirith Ungol with Sam and Frodo's entry to Mordor

I wonder why the movies chose to focus on the 'union' between Orthanc and Baradur as a reference to the title.
Maybe 'Four Hobbits' would have been better as they seem to have a nack for taking down any tower that stands in their way.

It's funny that you ask this question, because as my husband and I have been reading the books, he often gets confused with all of the towers. Myself being in class, I can kind of explain it to him, but there is still always that question of "What towers are we talking about here?"

For myself I always thought of the two towers as refering to Orthanc and Barad-Dur. From the books and especially the movies those two seem to be only towers, as oposed to cities with towers.
