Boromirs purpose!!!!!

I no that we have already talked about this but, I have had medical issues and have been dieing to ask! We talked about boromir being the end of a line of men that were the beowulf kind of hero wich boromir was. Why then would the council send him if he had no real purpose. Everyone else had something extra great to bring to the table except him. The only story boromir had is that his father is the steward of ministereth and he has faught orcs. Every one else has a unique history or reason, including the hobbits.

Boromir was sent to Rivendell to find out why all the bad things had been happeneing in the east. That is when he found out that the ring actually did exist and all that. Also, he was sent with them because he planned on the group going through Gondor. He wasn't necassarily sent with the group, but it made a lot of sense for him to go with them when it was on his way home and he felt the need to help end the movement by Mordor in some way or another.

Yeah, Boromir wasn't actually part of the fellowship, in the sense that he didn't plan on going any farther than home. However, he did plan on helping anyway he could until they got there. So, he really didn't have any real purpose other than that in the group.

Boromir also serves as a foil in some ways to Aragorn. Would you think Aragorn was really as "good" as he is without having Boromir to compare him to?

I think that Boromir is also there because he is heir to the throne, but Aragorn is the real heir. Later on in our readings Boromir's brother says that Boromir probably greatly admired Aragorn because he is the rightful heir. It's almost as if he was there so that he could be killed and have Aragorn tell him it's all fine. I wonder if he would have admitted to trying to take the ring from Frodo if it had been anyone but Aragorn seeing his last breath .

thinking back about boromir, the relation between boromir and roland is kind of similar. blowing his horn late in battle and trying to protect merry and pippin he dies leaving the task to pursuing the orcs to aragorn like king charles.

Also, Charlemagne's father, king Pepin the Short was also known as Pippin.

This picture got me thinking of the resemblance.
