Dwarves

All this talk of Glorfindel being cut from the movie, but can’t the same be said to be true of Gloin. Is Gloin in the movie? The movie seems to cut out the entire dwarven race focusing on just Gimli. I always wondered what happened to all of the dwarves. In the book, there are dwarves who are always travelling the roads. Sure, the dwarfs of Moria are gone, but that doesn’t mean that the race is extinct.

Well as a Forgotten Realms fan, I just wanted to say that I would have liked to have seen more done with dwarves in the movie.

I agree with you Rocky. It seems like even though in the book they mention the dwarves a lot more than the elves. Well at least some what mentioned more, and they are hardly in the movie at all. Kind of sucks really. The dwarves are a pretty interesting group. Would have been cool to see them in the movie more.

Yeah I agree with you both. The Dwarves are a very interesting race. Their culture is much more featured in the Hobbit.

So far the book has talked about the dwarves quite a bit, but the adventure hasn't traveled through their land. That just seems like an easy cut for the movie to me.

I agree. With the elves they travel through a few parts that they inhabit, therefore making them more relevant to the movie. I do like Gimli's character in the movie and it would have been nice to see more people like him, but I do understand why they were cut out.

Glóin is in the movie; he just doesn’t have any lines. In this photo from the film, you can see him in the background behind Gimli.

Interesting, I can't remember noticing that before. I wonder if he had some lines in the original script and was cut out. Do the extended versions of the movies retain all the cut material, or are they still missing deleted scenes?

i never really noticed this until you poinbted it out, but i completely agree. The movie only gives us Gimli, which means that every time the books speak of any other dwarf, I can't help but picture every dwarf the same. Sure, I am fascinated with elves and believe the movies did a great job at presenting their beauty, but that doesn't mean that the dwarves needed to be cut out. Good point!
