Scouring of the Shire

Every time that I read this chapter it always seems to me to be overenthusiastic fan fiction. While I know that all of the hobbits are going to be changed by their experiences, it seems a little overdone.

This chapter is a little over the top, it is as almost if tolkien started writing a new book, in which the characters have competley new personalities.

I agree with Erica. When I was reading this chapter, I felt like I was in a completely new book. Nothing about it seemed anything like the rest of the Lord of the Rings. Having said that, I really enjoyed how Tolkien brought Saruman back into the story.

I liked this part of the book, especially when the hobbits draw swords on the big guys. It just showed that though their world had changed, their eventful journey had prepared them for what was to come.

I'll agree that this chapter is completely different than the rest, but I would say that I was ready for a change. I think by Tolkien "over-doing" it, caught my attention again, and helped bring away from all of the dark Mordor, and fighting scenes.
